JOHN COOK
“Your Realtor for All Seasons…and All Reasons”
John Cook hails from the beautiful state of Kentucky where he graduated from Prestonsburg High School. He earned his B.S. degree in business Administration at Berea College and his Masters in Student Personnel Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. During his undergraduate years at Berea he was active in many extracurricular activities, including: Chapel Choir (president), Business and Economics Club (president, and the Baptist Student Union (choir director). He was also a four year member of the golf team.
After college he served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. After ten years in medical clinic administration, he returned to his alma mater and served for twenty-five years as Director of Admissions before retiring as Associate Provost for Student Administrative Services. During his tenure at Berea College he served as President of the Kentucky Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and as President of the Kentucky Association of Secondary and College Counselors. John was also a member of the Board of Directors of United Way of the Bluegrass and Berea Hospital. For 25 years he was secretary – Treasurer of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and for nearly 30 years was statistician for the Berea College basketball team.
Through friends John learned about Lake Lure, and he and his wife, Becky, began a new phase of their lives when they relocated here. After a few years he began his career in real estate. His personal experience enables him to identify with those who feel the tug to make a move to this special place. As a resident for more than ten years, he knows the area and is qualified to assist buyers and sellers alike.
A singer since the age of 12 when John became a part of the “Patsy Coal Teenagers”, a coal company-sponsored group that sang throughout the eastern United States, and he was a soloist in the outdoor drama, “Wilderness Road”, and has sung in community choruses in Kentucky and North Carolina. He is an avid golfer, thought time to play is limited these days, and loves to read.
He and Becky love their Lake Lure home in the woods where their children and their families frequently visit. The welcome mat is always out for friends from near and far.
John Cook is the perfect real estate agent choice when you decide to make Lake Lure your home and put out your own welcome mat to your family and friends.
