PETE AUSTIN
Officially named John N. Austin Jr., he is known as “Pete”. Pete was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN and graduated from Mc Callie School, an all boy’s military school. He went on to earn a B.S. in Marketing at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and then served his country in Vietnam.
Pete spent many years in a long and successful career as general manager for Porsche Auto dealerships. During those years of working long hours in that business he and his buddies would often head to Western North Carolina for golf weekends. They played all the wonderful courses in Asheville, Maggie Valley, Waynesville, Cashiers and Highlands. They called WNC their home away from home and loved escaping to this magical place.
About 25 years ago he made a promise to himself that Asheville would be his retirement gift to him and his family. As his golf group diminished he and his wife took the “long weekend” theory to enjoy many of Asheville’s fine Bed & Breakfasts, enjoy the great restaurants, and took the time to learn about the city and surrounding area. They found Asheville to be charming, eclectic, diversified and cultural; and always with the beautiful mountains in sight and a climate cooler than Chattanooga.
The dream came true and they moved here to build their special house. He knew he didn’t really want to retire, but he did want to do something new and exciting. He had spent over 40 years in the automobile business with the likes of Porsche, Audi, BMW, Land rover and Jaguar. He fulfilled his dream with his move to Asheville and he knew he wanted to continue to fulfill “dreams” for other people….hence his new career in real estate.
He says most people didn’t really need any of the previously mentioned fine automobiles, but thank goodness many folks wanted them. He feels the same way about the families that have chosen to pick up from wherever home is, and make their way to western North Carolina to experience a new and exciting way of life in what is truly God’s country.
