We often get asked by our residents - "how can get my full deposit refunded after I move out?" This ongoing series will tell you how!

Second in the series - Cleaning Up On Your Way Out!

Good housekeeping is essential - According to all Apple leases, tenants must keep all fixtures, facilities and appliances in clean and safe condition and dispose of all rubbish in a clean and safe manner. The easiest way to avoid move out cleaning charges and damages is to properly care for your home from the beginning. Sweeping, dusting and cleaning appliances and fixtures weekly is a great way to keep your home fresh and comfortable and to avoid excessive cleaning needs at move out. Guidelines for a great move out cleaning are listed below:

KITCHEN

Range & Oven

Clean stove top; reflector pans clean or replaced; oven and broiler pan clean. Pull out bottom drawer and clean underneath. Oven must be cleaned well.

Clean under the stove hood.

Fridge & Freezer

Fridge on and clean; Freezer defrosted and clean. Remove all food and wash inside thoroughly.

Sink & Faucets

Sink scrubbed; Faucets shiny

Dishwasher (if applicable)

Remove all dishes and clean thoroughly

Cabinets & Hardware

Emptied of contents and wiped down inside and out

Shelves & Countered

Emptied of contents and wiped down inside and out

Floors, Walls, Ceiling, Baseboards

Floors swept and washed. Grout cleaned. Walls and baseboards wiped down.

Windows

Window sills wiped down, wash inside-facing glass panes and dust blinds. Screens should be in place

BATHROOM(S)

Toilet & Seat

Bowl cleaned; stains removed, outside bowl and baseboards wiped down

Shower & Tub

Floor and walls scrubbed; stains removed. Shower curtains removed.

Sink & Faucet

Faucets clean, sink clean

Medicine Cabinet

All items removed, wiped down inside and out

Floors, Walls, Ceiling, Baseboards

Floors swept and washed. Grout cleaned. Walls and baseboards wiped down.

Windows

Window sills wiped down, wash inside-facing glass panes and dust blinds. Screens should be in place

LIVING AREAS

Carpets

Vacuumed!!! Clean any spots. If your carpet is excessively dirty you may wish to have them steam cleaned.

Floors, Walls, Ceiling, Baseboards

Floors swept and washed. Grout cleaned. Walls and baseboards wiped down.

Windows

Window sills wiped down, wash inside-facing glass panes and dust blinds. Screens should be in place

Light Fixtures

Replace burned out bulbs. Wipe down fixture.

ALL BEDROOMS

Carpets

Vacuumed!!! Clean any spots. If your carpet is excessively dirty you may wish to have them steam cleaned.

Floors, Walls, Ceiling, Baseboards

Floors swept and washed. Grout cleaned. Walls and baseboards wiped down.

Windows

Window sills wiped down, wash inside-facing glass panes and dust blinds. Screens should be in place

WALLS

Remove all nails and pictures. Wipe down and clean up scuff marks

CLOSETS

Empty, clean, vacuum

TRASH

Remove all trash and all other personal items

GARAGE

Sweep, clean stains, remove all personal items

HEAT & A/C

Replace filter, set thermostat to 78 in Summer or 60 in Winter

OUTSIDE AREAS

Remove all personal items and place garbage in appropriate receptacle. Mow yard and remove debris if lawn care is not included
